What are your office hours?
Our office is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 AM, Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 PM to 12:00 AM, when classes are in session. During breaks and closings, the office closes at 5pm Monday - Friday and is closed during the weekend.
Do you allow pets?
Fish in a 10 gallon or smaller tank are the only pets permitted in Edgewood Commons. However, service animals and ESA's are permitted with appropriate documentation. For more information, click here.
Are freshmen/sophomores allowed to live in Edgewood Commons?
Yes, freshmen and sophomores are allowed to live in Edgewood Commons and still satisfy the live on campus requirement. They will need to submit the housing exemption request (found on the FSU Residence Life Office website) once they have signed a lease with Edgewood Commons.
How do I get mail/packages?
Each apartment is assigned a mailbox serviced by the US Postal Service. Mailboxes are located on the first floor across from the gameroom. USPS delivers mail Monday through Friday, except on holidays. Packages are delivered to the front office and logged by staff. Students will receive a notification that a package has been delivered for them. Package pick up begins at 1pm daily (when the office is open). We accept mail and packages from USPS, Amazon, UPS and FedEx. All other deliveries (food and store) must meet the recipient to drop off items. Edgewood staff are not responsible for any items delivered or dropped off for pick up.
Do you have to be a student to live at Edgewood Commons?
Yes, Edgewood Commons is affiliated student housing for Frostburg State University and is only avaiable to students at Frostburg State.
Is there a waitlist for two bedroom apartments?
Yes, we do keep a waitlist for students who want to request a 2 bedroom when space is available.
When shoud I apply?
You can submit an application at anytime. Our leases are for an entire academic year from August to May. We begin lease signing for the upcoming fall semester in January and continue through move in. If you are coming to Frostburg for the spring semester, you can apply for a January move in and would sign a spring only lease.
What if I am graduating/transferring/leaving after the fall semester? Can I sign a fall only lease?
All leases that begin in August will be for the full academic year (Aug-May), however, if you are leaving Frostburg at the end of the fall semester, you may submit a request to have your lease cancelled per the provisions in your lease. Documentation is required for your request and a cancellation fee may be added to your account if your request is approved.
How safe is Edgewood Commons? Campus? Frostburg?
All college campuses that receive federal funding are required to report their annual crime statistics and make those statistics publicly available, you can find the Annual Security and Fire Safety Report for FSU here.
When is package pickup available?
Packages can be picked up at the front desk from 1pm until Midnight each day. Packages are generally delivered in the mornings and staff need time to sort and log all packages. Students will receive a text and/or email notification when they have a package for pick up. They must present their ID for package pick up.
Is there staff available after hours and on weekends?
Yes, Edgewood is staffed 24/7 with on call staff available when the office is closed. The phone numbers for on call staff are posted around the building.
Can I live in Edgewood during the summer?
Edgewood Commons is open for summer housing for students who are enrolled for summer classes at Frostburg State University. There is a separate lease for summer and summer rates are available based on the student's enrollment.
What kind of staff is there at Edgewood Commons?
Edgewood Commons is staffed with a full time office staff including a Director, 2 Assistant Directors and an Office Coordinator. There are 3 full time maintenance staff for the building. Edgewood also has 9 resident assistants who are students living on each floor. The Director and Assistant Director of Residence Life also live in the building. What amenities are included?
Our apartment amenities include a full size refrigerator, dishwasher, stove and microwave, in-unit washer and dryer, individually controlled thermostats, and private bedrooms.
Are utilities included in rent?
Water, sewer, electricity, gas, internet and trash services are included in your housing fees. Residents are responsible for cable streaming services.
Is smoking permitted in Edgewood Commons?
No, Edgewood Commons is located on the property of Frostburg State University which is a smoke free campus. Smoking, vaping and all tobacco products are not permitted on campus, incuding Edgewood.
Is alcohol permitted?
If the resident is over 21, they are permitted to possess alcohol in their room. If there is an underage resident in the apartment, alcohol cannot be kept in any of the common areas. Of age residents must store their alcohol in their bedroom.
Will I be able to choose my roommate(s)?
Yes, you will be able to select roommates for your apartment. If you do not select roommates, our assignment coordinator will place other residents in your apartment based on your profile information provided in our roommate matching program.
What can I bring for my room/apartment?
Your bedroom and apartment are fully furnished and include all basic appliances. You and your roommates will need to bring items such as linens, dishes, cooking supplies, cleaning supplies, décor and other personal items. You can find a list of additional suggestions here.
What size is the desk in the bedroom?
The desk is approximately 30 inches deep and wide and 60 inches tall.
What size is the bed?
All of our mattresses are TwinXL sized (76" long x33" wide x 5" high). The bedframe is approximately 85" long, 39" wide and 34" tall. The platform can be adjusted from 6" to 33" high.
What are the dimensions of the window?
Window dimensions will vary depending on the location of the room.
How many beds and baths are in each apartment?
Edgewood Commons has 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom units, 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom units and 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom units. All bedrooms are private housing a single person. Bathrooms are shared by up to one other person. There are a limited number of 2 bedrooms available.
What community amenities do you offer?
We offer a 24-hour fitness center,game room, outdoor grilling areas, sand volleyball court, and free parking.
Is there parking available?
Yes, there is plenty of parking available and your first parking permit is included in your housing fee.
What appliances are provided and what can I bring for my apartment?
All apartments have a fully outfitted kitchen with a refrigerator, stove, dishwasher, microwave and garbage disposal. You are welcome to bring small appliances to supplement your kitchen. You may also bring a small (mini sized) refrigerator to keep in your bedroom.
How do I connect to the internet?
Each apartment is equipped with a wired access point and there is also full wifi coverage for the building. All internet is provided by Frostburg State and you will use your FSU log in credentials to access the internet. Separate routers are not permitted. What if something in my apartment is broken and needs repair?
Residents of Edgewood Commons have access to a Resident Portal. The portal can be reached through the Edgewood Commons website or using the Resident Portal mobile app (available for both android and apple products). The Resident Portal can be used to see their charges, pay their bill, see events and activities for the building and submit maintenance requests. Maintenance requests should be submitted for anything in the apartment that needs repair. Maintenance staff will address maintenance requests in the order they are received and based on the priority of the repair. Maintenance are available Monday through Friday from 7am until 3pm. They will not enter apartments before 9am each morning. Maintenance requests submitted after hours will be addressed the next business day. Emergency maintenance concerns should be reported to staff and on call maintenance staff will address the concern and determine the course of action.
Is there transportation to/from campus?
Edgewood Commons is located on the campus of Frostburg State University and all of campus is easily accessible by walking. However, there is also a shuttle available that does pick up and drop off from Edgewood. It is part of the Allegany County transit system. How do I make a payment?
Payments are made using the Resident Portal which can be accessed here. You can also mail a payment to the Edgewood Commons office at 1 University Drive, Frostburg, MD 21532. Make sure to include the student's name on the payment.
What types of payment do you accept?
We accept credit (3% fee per transaction), debit ($8.95 fee per transaction), ACH/Bank Transfers ($2,95 fee per transaction), check (personal or cashier's) or Money Orders. Checks or Money orders should be sent to the Management office, made payable to "Edgewood Commons" and include the student's full first and last name.
Can I pay with Financial Aid?
Yes, you may request to have your excess financial aid funds sent to Edgewood Commons to cover your housing fees once your Frostburg tuition and fees have been paid. You will need to complete the Financial Aid Deferrment form prior to the start of the semester to ensure the funds will be sent to Edgewood.
Do I have to pay a deposit?
No, we do not require a deposit but there is a $150 administrative fee that must be paid with your application. This fee is a separate charge and is not applied to your housing charges.
What other fees do I have to pay?
There are only two mandatory fees paid by all residents: Adminstrative fee: $150 (one time paid with initial application); Activity Fee: $50 (paid each semester). Any other fees are billed on a case by case basis including fees for lost keys, room changes, room damages or replacement parking permits. See your lease for more details regarding the miscellaneous fees.
Can I pay my housing fees in installments?
Yes, you will have the option to pay your housing fee each semester on August 1 and January 1 or you can elect to pay your fee in 5 monthly intsallments each semester (Fall: Aug - Dec; Spring: Jan - May). There will be a 1% convenience fee added to your account for the installment plan.
Are the housing fees per person or split between the occupants?
All listed housing fees are per person. Each resident has a separate lease and is responsible for only their fees.
When is payment due?
Payments are due on the 1st of each month. If you are paying for the full semester up front, payment is due on August 1 (fall) and January 1 (spring). If you are paying in monthly installments, your payment is due on the 1st of each month for the semester Aug-Dec (fall) and Jan - May (spring). Late fees are added to accounts on or around the 4th of the month. Payments sent via mail must be received prior to the late payment deadline to avoid a late fee.
What is a guarantor? Who can be a guarantor?
For the purposes of Edgewood Commons a guarantor is either a parent, guardian or other (financial) sponsor who can legally sign the leasing documents. The guarantor is affirming the resident will fulfill their financial obligations to Edgewood Commons.
Do I have to get a meal plan to live in Edgewood Commons?
No, you are not required to purchase a meal plan while living in Edgewood Commons. However, you are welcome to purchase any of the available meal plan options if you would like one.
If I want to pay my housing fee online, how do I do that and is there a fee?
Housing fees can be paid online using the Resident Portal. Residents and guarantors have access to the resident portal in order to make payments. There are service fees based on the type of payment used. Payments can be made using a debit card, credit card or ACH (bank transfer).
Can I pay in person?
In person payments can be made with a personal check, cashier's check or money order. Checks should be made out to Edgewood Commons. There is no fee for paying this way unless the check is not honored which would result in a returned check fee of $30. More than one dishonored personal check would result in our office no longer accepting personal checks for payment. We cannot accept cash or card payments in person.
